There are some things that police academy training can prepare you for, but several South Carolina police officers learned the hard way that there are also some things that no amount of training can mentally prepare you for.
Police officers were called out to the home of Savanah Victoria Morgan, a mother who was eight month pregnant, after her 2-year-old son was found unresponsive in his room.
After police climbed their way through heaps of trash and feces to pull the child out, they discovered that the child displayed very clear signs of having been physically abused.
The police had to airlift him to the hospital because the injuries were so bad. The child is doing better, but still has a long road to recovery.
In addition to being abused, the boy was subject to a the wide array of dead and dying animals in the home. According to reports, “In bags and containers, as well as freely out in the open, there were about 90 animals, including cats, dogs, rodents, reptiles, pythons and tarantulas.”
While sorting through the massive amount of junk, police discovered two more children, aged 1 and 2, who were removed from Morgan’s home and placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services.
Initially, Morgan claimed that her child was unresponsive because he had choked on some chips, but she later changed her story and claimed she had accidentally dropped the child.
However, the array of bruises, new and old, on the child suggested that he had been routinely beaten.
The police officers who dealt with this call could not believe what they had just seen.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in my 20 years doing this,” said Lt. Scott Franklin (H/T Mad World News).
Morgan, unsurprisingly, ended up in jail, with bail set at $65,000.
